Axis 4 : Congenital Heart Diseases

Congenital heart diseases are structural malformations of the heart present at birth, ranging in severity from minor defects with no significant impact on quality of life to serious conditions requiring treatment. About five in every 1,000 births are affected. These conditions result from abnormal development of the heart during fetal life, often with unknown causes. The team focuses on improving diagnostic and therapeutic (surgical and interventional) management of patients with CHD, in collaboration with the Reference Center for Complex Congenital Heart Defects. Several research programs conducted by the team also address the impact of congenital heart disease on quality of life, including the development of cardiovascular rehabilitation programs both in clinical settings and at home.
